Now that most of us are cooped up in our homes as per the government’s orders to self-quarantine and observe social distancing, we need to ensure that our homes are well ventilated. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), COVID-19 virus can be transmitted by droplets released into the air when a patient sneezes or coughs.

As much as we’re practising social distancing, many of us are quarantined with family or friends inside our homes. For this reason, air circulation within the house needs to be optimum at all times.

Here are four changes you can make that will improve air circulation in your home.

Rearrange furniture

Strategically rearranging your furniture will create a direct pathway of airflow around your home. Windows and doors should not be blocked by any furniture because these are the main forms of ventilation in most homes. If you also have any vents on your walls, ceilings or floors, move any furniture or wall-hangings around so that the vents are exposed.

Use a fan

Using a good old fan is a sure way of ensuring that air is properly circulating around your home. This is especially important in warm and humid regions. Not all homes have ceiling fans and, if this is the case with yours, simply purchase a pedestal or table fan and keep your windows open so that the fan pushes the air out of your home.

Open your windows

This is the easiest solution for poor ventilation in a home. By opening your windows, stale air and excess moisture will be blown right out of your house. Opening a couple of windows in different rooms around your house will create a breeze and a crossflow of air. Avoid completely shutting your windows at night, keep them slightly open to reduce excess moisture in your room.

Ventilate the attic

An attic sits right at the top of a house and stagnant air can penetrate the attic floor and seep into the rest of the house.  A sure solution for poor air circulation in your attic is to install attic vents if there aren’t any already. Hire a professional to get the job done and it will certainly be worth the investment.?
