You can win the war against your itchy scalp with natural remedies

If you suffer from scalp irritation, you might want to consider changing your hair products. Scalp irritation is sometimes caused by changes in weather or product build-up on the scalp. Loose flakes of dandruff on your clothes is a sure sign. Fortunately, you can win the war against your itchy scalp with these natural remedies.

Apple cider vinegar: It has anti-bacterial qualities that can stop bacteria build-up on your scalp. It is also a remedy against fungal conditions. Dilute it before you use it as an after-shampoo rinse on your scalp otherwise you will get an uncomfortable sting. For best results, use unfiltered organic apple cider vinegar.

Aloe vera: It is a great balm for the scalp as it naturally calms any itch and softens your hair while feeding the hair roots. It will come in handy in case you get any stinging sensation from the vinegar rinse. Aloe vera can be used straight from the plant or you can get its organic gel from local stores.

Tea tree oil: It has anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that soothe scalp irritation and is present in many shampoos and conditioners. Do not, however, use tea tree oil on its own without diluting it with some carrier oil, like the one we are discussing next.

Coconut oil: Coconuts don’t get mouldy because they contain capyrilic acid which ensures there is no growth of fungus. You can benefit from this by using coconut oil on your scalp. For best results, use the real organic extra-virgin coconut oil. It is effective when mixed with a few drops of tea tree oil.

Avoid shampoos with harsh detergents as these strip your scalp (and hair) of natural oils. They also enhance the tight and dry feeling on the scalp. Avoid shampoos that have sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate (SLS) since they will only add to the skin irritation. It is sometimes difficult to diagnose the cause of itchy scalp. If your symptoms persist, it would be wise to visit a dermatologist to give you an accurate diagnosis of your condition.
