The mysterious celestial object was photographed in the firmament above The Bronx on Saturday - with one terrified woman calling the emergency services to report a "flying saucer".
Pigeon fancier Juan Marrero, 57, told the New York Post: "I look up and see this fireball, 'Whoosh!' and then another, 'Whoosh!'
"From one side of the sky to the other, too fast for an airplane."
Andres Morales, 25, caught the UFO on camera.
He said: "I stuck my hand out the car window and snapped like crazy.
"I don't know what it was but it was moving crazy fast."
Ufologist Ryan Sprague said unusual lights were seen in the same spot last year and also in 2011.
He added: "I definitely think we're dealing with anomalies that could potentially be nonhuman."
