The rainy season has been here for a while now. It’s the perfect time to enjoy the indoors, drinking warm cocoa and drifting off to sleep while you listen to the splashing rain drops outside your window.

While it’s a season that many people enjoy especially after a prolonged period of the scorching sun, there are more than one ways which the rain can be a pain in the donkey.

After a heavy downpour you might come back home with muddy shoes, wet clothes and the most terrifying of them all, wet hair.

This can be so stressful especially if you recently styled your hair. At this point, the worst thing you can do is letting the rain water settle in for a long time while you ignorantly ignore some of the possible effects.

In order to help you take care of your now wet hair, we have prepared some amazing hair care tips for you

Detangle your hair

Your hair is very weak when it’s wet. Because of this, you should avoid using fine toothed combs as that could lead to more breakage.

If possible, use your fingers to detangle your hair and to remove any knots that might have formed. If you must, use a wide toothed comb and pass it through your hair gently.

Wash your hair

Most of us assume that rain water can’t affect your hair after you’ve been rained on. In real sense, rain water contains different chemicals with different pH levels that could cause some harmful changes. We live in times when there is so much pollution and this has an effect on the pH of the rain. Once this, probably acidic water, gets into contact with hair, it can weaken it thus causing it to break. Your hair pH levels need to be maintained so once it is ‘affected,’ you might have to wash it.

Condition

Some of the chemicals found in rain water can dry up your hair. This will cause you to have brittle hair that has a lot of split ends when you don’t replenish the moisture after being rained on. Conditioning will also help you to tame the frizz that you might experience during such times so use it generously.

Moisturize

On top of conditioning, add some moisturizer to your hair. This will help your hair recover from the stripped moisture and the drying effect that rain water tends to have on hair. Find a good cream that works for you and seal your hair with oil for moisture retention.

Limit the products

It’s best to also avoid slapping on too many products when you have no time to wash your hair. This could possibly lead to more damage in an attempt to fix it. If you have no time to wash your hair, opt for some leave in conditioner which will preserve your hair before your next wash day.

Try your best to prevent drenched hair before it happens. When you know the rainy season is approaching, get a small umbrella that you can carry around in your bag. This will definitely save you time and the agony of having ruined hair days after you just left the salon. As the saying goes, better safe than sorry.
