Zac Efron split with his girlfriend over her possible casting in a controversial new show, reports say.
The Hollywood heartthrob made headlines when he was linked to Australian Vanessa Valladares last year, but reports emerged yesterday that they'd called it quits after a 10-month romance.
Now it's reported that Vanessa's potential casting in Byron Baes, a new reality show that has sparked the ire of local residents, was partly behind their "split."
The show will follow social media influencers in the stunning Australian area of Byron Bay.
A source told Daily Mail Australia that the pair aren't "100 per cent" split up, but that her potential casting on the show could have been "the final nail in the coffin."
"He's a very good person who wanted a genuine, normal, down-to-earth partner," they said.
"Zac sent her home from the set [Down to Earth with Zac Efron] last week. There still may have been a chance.
"I'm sure the final nail in the coffin was him seeing the story of her being possibly on Byron Baes and the claims that he was helping her get on it."
They added that Zac doesn't read about himself in the media, adding: "He is an absolutely down to earth person, not fancy, quite humble."
Mayor of Byron Simon Richardson has addressed the swirl of controversy directed at Byron Baes, which is being produced by streaming giant Netflix.
Many local residents feel the show will negatively affect the idyllic area.
Mayor Richardson warned during an interview with ABC that "you'd be struggling to find one person" in the area who was on board with the plans.
He went on to brand Byron Baes "vacuous" and "fake", and worried it could bring about "not just sensitivity challenges for us, but also economic challenges."
Byron Bay boasts famously beautiful natural beaches, and hosts big names like Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky.
Natalie Portman, Matt Damon and Nicole Kidman are among others who've stayed in the area during time spent Down Under.
A statement from Netflix states that "docu-soap" Byron Baes will follow influencers without social media's filter, and will feature "fights, flings and heartbreak."
