The American Music Awards (AMAs) held on November 23, brought the who’s who in music together. The socially distanced awards show held in Los Angeles was hosted by Taraji P Henson.
While awards shows have taken a different approach this year thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, the AMAs remained a crowd pleaser. There were performances by the likes of The Weeknd, new mum Katy Perry and Megan Thee Stallion.
Among the winners were three women of colour. Nicki Minaj took home Favourite Female Artist award in the Rap/Hip hop category. She was also awarded the Favourite Song award in the Latin category for her collaboration with Karol G for their song Tusa.
Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion won the Favourite Song in the Rap/Hip hop category for their controversial single WAP.
Other notable winners included Taylor Swift who won the artist of the year, female pop artist of the year and music video of the year awards, as well as Dua Lipa and Doja Cat.
