Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost surprised fans when it was announced that they became husband and wife last week.

The actress, 35, and Saturday Night Live head writer's nuptials have been clouded in secrecy however, a source reportedly close to the loved-up couple has dished on the ceremony that took place at Scarlett's home in Palisades New York.

Speaking to People, the insider told that the smitten pair wanted an intimate ceremony and planned their special day in a very short amount of time.

A source told: "They only planned the wedding for a few weeks."

They added: "Just close friends and family attended."

Another close pal told: "They wanted a quiet, private ceremony with their close friends and family, and they pulled it off."

Scarlett and Colin did not share they news that they had become Mr and Mrs Jost themselves but instead the happy union was unveiled by a charity that the couple both support - Meals on Wheels America.

The non-profit announced the pair had tied the knot on their Instragram page on October 29.

The post read: "We're thrilled to break the news that Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost were married over the weekend in an intimate ceremony with their immediate family and love ones, following COVID-19 safety precautions as directed by the CDC."

The account added: "Their wedding wish is to help make a difference for vulnerable older adults during this difficult time by supporting @mealsonwheelsamerica.

Black Widow actress Scarlett and comedian Colin started dating in 2017 and got engaged in May 2019.

Colin popped the question by presenting Scarlett with an 11-carat engagement ring, which she showed off that July when she headed to San Diego Comic-Con.

Last October, Avengers star Scarlett gushed about how well her man did with his proposal.

She said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show: "It was surprising — he’s got a lot behind that news desk he’s hiding," she joked, referring to his job as Weekend Update host of Saturday Night Live.

"He’s very charming and very thoughtful and romantic. But yeah, I was surprised. Even if you kind of imagine what that moment’s gonna be like, it’s still a beautiful moment."

The big day saw Colin married for the first time, while Scarlett has been married two times before, to Ryan Reynolds from 2008 to 2010 and to Romain Dauriac from 2014 to 2017.

She shares daughter Rose with Romain.
