Anita Soina, also known as the environmental warrior, is among the youngest CEOs and political aspirants in Kenya. At only 21, she has has been working tirelessly on saving mother earth.
After high school, she wanted to do something for the society and opted to pursue climate action, which is one of many of her endeavours. Anita doubles up as an environmental activist and author of the book The Green War, which talks about her quest to end environmental degradation.
Anita is also the founder of Soina Foundation and Spice Warriors. The foundation is an initiative to not only support local communities but also foster global environmental conservation. Spice Warrior children are dedicated to mentoring young children and nurturing them in conservation.
Growing up in a family where politics and leadership were highly regarded, Anita‘s grandfather, she says, prophesied her future in leadership. She has grown looking up to politicians and young leaders who have been elected and are delivering.
"I discovered my passion at 17, founded an organisation at 18 and wrote my first book at 20. I became a Ted-X speaker at 21, and attended COP 26 conference at 21."
Anita describes herself as a fearless ambitious woman who is pushing for positive social change from the corridors of power. She also describes herself as a youth with a passion for conservation and has formed an army to push the agenda.
In 2021, she made an announcement that she is vying for a parliamentary seat. She says the reception has been a mixture of positive and negative.
Her mother was not shocked by this decision as they had seen her actively engage in politics. She was, however, concerned that it was a little too early for her.
Anita is concerned about the huge expenses one has to incur when vying for a seat, a disadvantage to young people aspiring for leadership positions.
"The one thing I would do if I had the power is put Kenya on the front line of climate action. I would also change the political culture to accommodate everybody.“
The environmental warrior says she is a strong person and was well equipped when she decided to get into power. She is prepared for the bullying and all that comes with being in the limelight.
But it is not all business for Anita. During her free time, she hangs out with friends and engages in fun activities through their eco-tour projects to unwind. She also loves listening to music, attending concerts and when it is all overwhelming, she takes a break from everything including social media.
