A teacher by profession, Janeth taught at Mbuyuni Primary School before she was first lady. Her predecessor, former First Lady of Tanzania Salma Kikwete, also taught at the same school.

The president and his family were renowned for leading a simple life and their children attended the Mbuyuni Primary School.

Before joining politics, President Magufuli was also a teacher.

In an address on State television, Tanzania’s vice-president Samia Suluhu Hassan said that President Magufuli passed on aged 61 on Wednesday March 17 from heart complications at a hospital in Dar es Salaam.

The president had not been in public for more than two weeks and there were concerns and rumours about his health.
