New pipeline route to boost economy

The agreement made by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni on the route the crude oil pipeline would take was timely. The new route is expected to open up northern Kenya for development and most importantly boost the oil discoveries made in Lokichar, Turkana County.

Oil is a key driver of the economy. The construction of the pipeline will not only change the economic fortunes of Uganda and Kenya, but also the larger East African region.

Access to affordable petroleum, for instance, by the East African Community will accelerate economic growth in the region.

The pipeline will bring about employment opportunities for citizens of the East African region and best of all, rejuvenate development for the communities along the pipeline route.
