Relief for pedestrians as new footbridge comes up along Mombasa road

Pedestrians who use Mombasa Road have a reason to smile after the government started construction of a footbridge.

The footbridge is being constructed by Kenya National Highway Authority(KeNHA) around the Panari Hotel along Mombasa Road.

Since the completion of the expressway, pedestrians and workforce between General Motors to Airtel Kenya have having a challenge of crossing to the other side of the road.

Presently, pedestrians are forced to alight at GM and trek all the way to variuos destinations due to lack of a footbridge along the stretch.

Those from city centre have equally been afected since they must alight on the two spots with footbridges so as to access some offices.

Both sides of the road are dotted with many establishments including banks that offer essential services.

"The major component of the footbridges is structural which comprises approximately 60 percent of the works," Samwel Kumba, Deputy Director Corporate Communication at KeNHA shared.

"The structural steel has been imported and is being fabricated. Completion is scheduled within this calendar year," he added.

Kumba said in addition, the agency is constructing more footbridges at Katani and Syokimau Railway and construction commenced on April 27, 2023 and they are almost done with Katani one.

At the same time he noted that there are plans to construct another footbridge at Westlands section between Aga Khan School and the junction to Brookside Drive.

Kumba said they currently doing relocation of water and electric lines along the sites before start construction.
