Excitement is in the air as the Standard County Golf Classic Series returns to the pristine par 71 Eldoret Club this Saturday.

Waiting to tackle the challenging tournament with very exciting prizes is former champion Wesley Kiprono who has already hit the ground running on the course range.

“I’m looking forward to playing a good round of golf in the tournament, and victory will be a plus. I’m already fit, so I’ll just be polishing my putts, swings and shots,” said Kiprono, 41, who lifted the leg in 2021.

Also expected in the showdown is two-time champion Anika Patel. The 28-year-old Eldoret-based sales lady triumphed in the circuit in 2014 and 2022.

In her last victory, Patel hit two birds with one stone by bagging the overall Winner and the nearest to the pin gongs, earning herself exciting prizes which included two return air tickets to any destination of her choice within Kenya courtesy of Jambojet and a two night for two ticket courtesy of Eka Hotel Eldoret.

Eka Hotel Eldoret is among other hordes of partners who have come on board to support the tournament that has a theme; 'On the Green Course, for the Green Cause'. Other partners include Eldoret Hospital, Eldoret Club and Eldoret Technical Training Institute.

The tournament will offer a great opportunity for Standard Group PLC to revisit the trees planted on the course, Eldoret's Aboretum and in Kaptagat two years ago as part of the media outlet’s sustainable action on climate change.

Registration for the contest is already ongoing with over 200 players from Nairobi, Kericho, Nakuru, Kitale and Kisumu expected to battle for honours in the showpiece.

Players are warned to brace themselves for the challenging holes 3 and 10 because of their narrow fairways which meander around a river bed snaking across the pitches.

Even if the course is in great shape, the holes are always cumbersome for players who cannot carry the ball across the river because of the narrow course and the fairways that need tact to handle

However, the golfers should prepare to enjoy the day as they keep fit.
