After months of silence and online speculation, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and her husband Sam Mburu have shown off their adorable double joy, twins.
While everybody is focused on the governor, in the background is a powerful, influential tycoon whom not much is said about: Sam Mburu.
Mburu's journey with Kihika began during the campaign period of 2012. What started as a friendship led to courtship and eventually culminated in a traditional wedding in 2020, which was attended by who's who in the political circles.
This union marked Mburu's second marriage, having previously been wed to Beatrice Wanjiku, with whom he shares two children. It is reported that after their divorce, a court granted joint custody and ordered Mburu to provide Sh597,000 in monthly maintenance, including Sh140,000 for food.
His business acumen is unmatched, with reports indicating he has had an impressive run in a range of businesses.
It is documented that he once ran a soft-drink distribution business, which, though it collapsed, paved the way for greater ventures.
Today, he helms Landmark Freight Services Company, headquartered in Mombasa with two branches in China.
His portfolio also boasts residential flats, rental properties across Nakuru and Nairobi, and a fleet of vehicles, earning him a reputation as a wealthy entrepreneur.
Though his exact net worth remains undisclosed, his sprawling investments speak volumes of his success.
Contrary to rumors painting his parents as charcoal sellers, they operated a wholesale shop in Kisii town, trading in mattresses, blankets, and household goods.
Educationally, Mburu's path took him through Mosocho Academy in Kisii County, Cardinal Otunga High School-Mosocho from 1997 to 1998, and finally Njoro Academy, where he completed his secondary studies.
But it's in the political arena that Mburu has left an indelible mark. A close ally of President William Ruto, he cut his teeth in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), working alongside other influential figures.
His support for Kihika's political ascension has remained unquestionable. From her tenure as Nakuru County Speaker in 2013 to her landslide victory as Senator in 2017 to her being elected as Governor in 2022, Mburu has been through it all.
Her 2017 senatorial campaign, for instance, was a high-octane affair fueled by luxurious SUVs and a chopper, bore his financial fingerprints, helping her secure a staggering 200,000-vote margin.
