Some police officers have been accused of allegedly engaging in crime, giving credence to allegations that law enforcers are behind the surging wave of robberies in Kenya.
It is shocking to see officers, who are expected to enforce the law, protect and secure the public, are now being accused of using their weapons to rob and harm the same people they swore to protect.
However, the police spokesman Charles Owino has come out categorically and said that the police force does not entertain rogue police officers. He further said that a police officer who commits a crime does it as an individual and he or she doesn’t represent the Kenya Police Service.
According to him, Kenyans need to understand that the police force has an internal mechanism for dealing with such officers.Owino further said that such officers are treated as criminals that is why a good number of police officers have been arrested and charged in a court of law when they break the law. Some have even been sacked.
On the other hand, the rogue officers have mastered the art of doing what they do because they take advantage of their training and knowledge to carry out heinous acts like abduction, murder; robbery and all other crimes they engage in.

In most case these officers like doing things on their own. They have very few police friends and in most cases, they relate with civilians who tip them about some of the things that help them in their robbery missions.
According to a survey, most of them are officers who have served in the force for less than ten years. Some of them appear to be so calm yet they are dangerous.
They have more sophisticated tools which are making them increasingly more elusive to deal with.In some instances, some police officers don’t return their guns to the armory at the end of their shift a move that forces the rogue officers to take advantage of their firearms to engage in crime.

Meanwhile, some of these rogue police officers are hired criminals who are only paid on commission.
