In
the next few weeks the citizens of the United States of America will go to the
polls to select their preferred candidate. A large number of the undecided
voters will go to the polls to vote one of the candidates so as their least
favorable candidate does not get to occupy the presidential seat.
Coming back home, we will also be going to the polls in the next
few months. At this point in time we can basically say that we are going to
have a similar two horse race similar to 4 years ago. Although no one like to
mention it, most Kenyans will vote along tribal lines and not what the
candidates are offering. Let’s face it most Kenyans know the candidate they are
going to vote for, but has anyone ever sat down and asked himself or herself
what has so and so done to improve their life or our lives in general as
Kenyans?
For the last four years we have had our fair shot of drama in
terms of the current government as well as the opposition and this has led to
most young people not being interested in watching the news as one headline can
run for about two weeks. So far no one has mentioned the current issues most
Kenyans are facing. The huge wage bill is a big issue, Kenya Airways is another
area in which Kenyans are concerned about, the rate at which government issued
contracts are being escalated, various contractors complaining about County
Governments not paying them, bloated government among other issues.
When we were voting in the new government Kenyans knew that the
Salaries and Remuneration Commission was going to reduce the salaries of the
members of parliament as well as other government agencies. This was however
reversed and quickly swept under the carpet.
In the last few days we came to know of a water project in Murang’a,
most Kenyans were not aware of such a project all we know of are some of the
over exaggerated road projects like the 1 million shillings a kilometer project
from Kikuyu to Ruaka, the standard gauge railway among others. Whom is
benefiting from this projects? Is it the common mwanainchi or is it for the
mwenye inchi.
