Bishop Korir hails peace initiatives among warring communities in North Rift

Eldoret Catholic Diocese Bishop Cornelius Korir has lauded peace initiatives achieved in regions affected by conflicts in parts of the North Rift.

Bishop Korir particularly praised the Pokot, Turkana and Samburu communities for agreeing to end hostilities between them and stop tribal raids and fights over resources.

"Last week, I appreciated our brothers and sisters from Muslim faith who shielded Christians from a terrorist attack in the North Eastern. I also want to thank Pokot, Turkana and Samburu communities for the peace building they have shown since we started the peace initiatives," he said.

Speaking after ushering in the New Year at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Eldoret town, Korir said the Catholic Church will initiate shared projects along the borders of warring communities as part of the efforts to end tribal conflicts.
"My mission is to cement peace building by providing the New Year blessings and the good message from God," he said.
Korir also thanked the county governments for the formation of North Rift Economic Bloc (Noreb), saying it will help address conflicts brought about by shared resources.
