Deputy Government Spokesperson Mwanaisha Chidzuga has been on the receiving end as netizens pointed out her alleged 'flaw' over a tweet questioning the presence of politician and playwright Cleophas Malala in a girls' dormitory at night.

The remarks have drawn sharp criticism from netizens and ignited a heated debate on social media, with many accusing Chidzuga of making baseless and inflammatory allegations.

In her tweet, she wrote: "Ndugu Malala ulikuwa unafanya nini katika bweni la wanafunzi wa kike wa umri wa chini ya miaka 18 usiku bila idhini ya wahusika au wazazi?"

This loosely translates to "Brother Malala, what were you doing in the dormitory of female students under 18 at night without the permission of the relevant authorities or parents?"

Her sentiments came on the heels of a dramatic incident in Nakuru, where Malala, the author of a controversial play, Echoes of War, performed by students of Butere Girls School, was detained by police during a national drama competition.

The play, which was critical of the government, had been disqualified under unclear circumstances, leading to protests by student performers who demanded Malala's release.

The girls would, however, be allowed to perform their play, but they turned the offer down in solidarity with Malala.

Education Minister Julius Ogamba had previously questioned Malala's involvement in the competition, noting that the politician was neither a teacher nor a play director, but no official reports have confirmed Chidzuga's specific allegations.

The reaction on X was swift and brutal, with many users slamming Chidzuga for what they called a reckless and malicious statement. The heat was too much, which eventually led to Mwanaisha disabling the comment section.

Chidzuga also pointed out that the government had no issue with the arts or students showcasing their talents, pointing out that the play had reached national levels without opposition.

However, she took issue with Malala's alleged motives, accusing him of exploiting children for political gain. "Hatuna shida ya tamthilia, Cleophas Malala chapisha na chapisha hata zaidi, lakini usipite mipaka ya kutafuta umaarufu kwa kutumia watoto,".
