Human rights activist Al-Amin Kimathi can now breathe easy after his wife dropped assault charges she had filed against him.
Al-Amin’s wife, Farida Saad, and a school principal identified as Fatuma Ali, told the court they had forgiven the accused, saying it was a family matter that they now wanted to settle out of court.
Al-Amin was accused of beating up and injuring Saad on September 9, 2015.
He was also charged with assaulting Fatuma, the school principal, who had attempted to separate them. He was further accused of damaging the school’s property valued at Sh17,500.
Saad said Al-Amin was her husband and since it was a family matter, she had decided to forgive him and continue with their lives.
At some point during the proceedings of the case, the court warned Al-Amin of stern action after he allegedly discussed the matter on Facebook.
The court agreed to the request to have the charges dropped, but did not withdraw the second count of malicious damage to property.
The court has asked Al-Amin to write a letter explaining that he had paid for the damages he caused in the school or that the two parties had an agreement of payment.
