Businessman robbed of Sh4 million at parking lot in Nairobi

A businessman was robbed of Sh4 million at a parking bay of a bar in Westlands, Nairobi.

The victim told police he is a transporter and was waiting for drivers of his lorries outside Njuguna's Bar along Waiyaki Way when he was attacked.

The gang of four is said to have shot in the air first before they confronted the victim on Saturday evening and grabbed the cash that was in a briefcase in his car.

According to police, the gang sped off in a waiting car, and no arrest has been made so far.

Police believe the gang had prior information on the money and investigations into the incident have been launched.

"We do not know why he chose to move with such a huge amount of money without escort, but we are investigating the attack," said an officer aware of the probe who asked not to be named.

  Rising crime

Elsewhere, in Soweto estate, Kayole, a motorist was robbed of Sh24,000 at gunpoint by men who escaped on foot.

The victim told police he had parked his car and wanted to go for shopping when he was attacked on Saturday. No arrest has been made so far.

Incidents of crime have been on the rise and police seem to be overstretched. Pockets of prison warders have been included in streets patrols.
