Chavakali shocks big names on way to joining KCSE top 10 club

Moi High School Kabarak, which held the first position countrywide in 2012, dropped to second with a mean grade of A minus.

Kapsabet Boys was ranked fourth. In 2012, the school was position 13.

Maseno School, which was 14th nationally in 2012, jumped to fifth. Molo Academy improved from position 11 in 2012 to sixth in 2013.

But Chavakali High School at position eight was the biggest shocker in this year’s KCSE. The school made a great leap since it was not even ranked among the top 100 schools nationally in 2012.

Retain position

Mary Hill Girls High School also found its way back to the top ten at number nine. It held position 15 in 2012. Though Kenya High School was able to retain a spot in the top 10, the school dropped from fifth in 2012 to tenth.

Some of the schools kicked out of the top 10 last year include Mary Mother of Grace Secondary School, which was third in 2012, Maranda High School (seventh), Loreto High School Limuru (eighth), and Moi Girls High School Eldoret (ninth).

Some of the academic giants that have been missing in action over the last two years include Starehe Boys Centre.

Strong performance

The school that once topped the national results for several years has not been on the top ten list for the last two years.

In 2012 Starehe Boys held position 12. It was ranked 17th Monday.  Molo Academy from Nakuru County was ranked sixth with 77 points.

Private institutions have also perfomed well thus denying these national schools a chance to shine. Schools like Anestar Boys High School in Lanet and Mary Mother of Grace Secondary School in Laikipia County have emerged very strong in performance.
