The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a man accused of impersonating a Nairobi County unit official and soliciting a bribe.

The suspect, identified as William Otieno Okoth, was apprehended on Tuesday for allegedly pretending to be the Personal Assistant to the County Secretary of Nairobi City County.

The suspect reportedly demanded a bribe of Sh100,000 from a woman, claiming he could secure her a job as a cleaner in the county.

Confirming the arrest, EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi said the suspect convinced the victim that, as the “PA to the CS,” he wielded significant influence within the county administration and could facilitate the issuance of an employment letter if she paid him the Sh100,000 bribe.

The victim reported the incident to the anti-graft agency, leading to a sting operation that resulted in his [suspect's] arrest outside Trattoria Restaurant in the Central Business District after he received the bribe.

The suspect was taken to the EACC Integrity Centre Police Station for processing and later detained at Kilimani Police Station, pending further investigation and statement recording.
