Hail Odongo as he is crowned in Kisumu

Thomas Odongo skillfully navigated the wet Nyanza Sports Club course to win the Crown Paints Golf series over the weekend.

Odongo emerged as the overall winner with a strong score of 43 stableford points, surpassing 96 other golfers in the sixth leg of the series.

Playing off a 23 handicap, Odongo showcased excellent form, hitting the fairways and playing on regulation.

He achieved seven pars, eight bogeys, and three double-bogeys.

Despite the challenging pin positions set by the greenkeeper, Nishal Shah, the course was in great condition. Golfers were allowed to adjust the lie of their golf balls in soggy areas under local rules.

Odongo who is also the clubs' Golf Captain expressed his satisfaction with the improved course, particularly praising his short game and stating that he strategically positioned his chips to simplify sinking his putts.

In the men's category, Don Riaroh, playing off a 20 handicap, secured the Men's winner prize with a score of 40 stableford points. Dr. Shem Rakewa claimed the Men's second prize with 36 stableford points.

Elizabeth Akinyi, with a handicap of 22, won the Lady winner prize with 40 stableford points, while Joyce Osike took the second prize with 39 stableford points. Dr. J Akhonya from Kakamega Sports Club won the Guest prize with 39 stableford points.

Danit Sokhi, playing off a handicap of 17, was declared the Junior winner with 29 stableford points. Ameeto Shah and Irene Wagumba secured the First Nine and Second Nine prizes, both with 20 stableford points.

  1. Amusala won the Longest Drive Men prize, while Lilian Kongani claimed the Longest Lady prize on the par-five 13th hole. Peter Yongo took home the Nearest to Pin prize.

During the event, Dr. Rakesh Rao, CEO of Crown Paints Plc, expressed gratitude to the golfers and guests for their patronage and support for the company's products.

He specifically acknowledged the Nyanza region for its substantial business, emphasizing its significance as the second largest region in terms of turnover, after Nairobi.
