KCB are gearing up for an intense showdown when they kick off their 2023-2024 FKF Premier League season against AFC Leopards on Friday at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The much-anticipated match will mark the beginning of Bernard Mwalala's coaching career at the bankers.

Speaking to the clubs' media ahead of his debut, Mwalala said he is ready for the challenge of lifting the bankers to the top.

"I am looking forward to the challenge and opportunity of leading KCB FC this season. We have spent the pre-season fine-tuning our strategies and strengthening our squad. The match against AFC Leopards will be an early test and I am confident of the team's readiness," he said.

KCB has undergone meticulous preparation during the off-season, focusing on team's cohesion, fitness, and individual skills.

Last month, the bankers camped in Kericho County for high-level fitness training, where they also faced Zoo FC, Muhoroni Youth FC, formerly Wazito, and Shabana FC in pre-season friendlies.

KCB will be banking on their new signings as well as a revamped technical bench to improve on last season's fifth-place finish and even challenge for top honors in all competitions.

"We have been eagerly awaiting the start of the season. The game against AFC Leopards is one that always brings out the best in both teams.

"We respect our opponents but are ready to give it our all on the pitch and set the tone for what promises to be a remarkable season. Our fans deserve nothing less than a spirited performance and that's what we intend to deliver," newly-appointed team captain Gabriel Andika said.

At the same time, Kenya Police who were held to a barren draw by Kariobangi Sharks will be hoping to get their season up and running when they host Posta Rangers.

Sofapaka will host Bandari at Kasarani Annex while Talanta will welcome newbies Shabana at Nyayo Stadium.

In Kisumu, Nzoia Sugar will be seeking to maintain their perfect start to the season when they travel to play Muhoroni Youth at Muhoroni Stadium.
