It is all systems go as FKF Caretaker Committee gives a greenlight to the resumption of the Kenyan Premier League and National Super League action starting Saturday.
The Committee, which was installed following the disbandment of the troubled Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced it will provide logistical support of Sh250, 000 for each of the 20 clubs in the second-tier National Super League and Sh300,000 for the top-tier Kenyan Premier League.
Citing the effects Covid-19 pandemic and closure of FKF accounts amid an investigation into financial impropriety at the football body, the clubs had requested the Government to help them bridge the shortfall.
On Thursday, FKF Caretaker Committee chairman Justice Aaron Ringera (Rtd) announced they will provide partial logistical support.
"We received your requests for funding from FKF Caretaker Committee to help with some logistics of resumption of league fixtures. We note, however, that because of the limited resources available at this moment in time, for a start the FKF Caretaker Committee has agreed that it will provide Sh300,000 for each of the Premier League Clubs and Sh250,000 for each of the the National Super League football clubs," Justice Ringera said in the statement to clubs.
The amounts offered by Ringera's committee to the teams are way below the Sh2 million grant each of the teams had requested to enable them to prepare for the league matches this weekend.
The NSL clubs were initially promised Sh750,000 from Betika sponsorship negotiated by the disbanded FKF, which was later reduced Sh300,000. At the time also, Premier League clubs were receiving Sh833, 000 from StarTimes deal before it was reduced to Sh400,000.
StarTimes have since terminated the deal with the disbanded FKF.
Justice Ringera informed the clubs that any review of changes to the Committee's offer would be communicated "in the near future when necessary".
