Kenya Under 20 national women’s team striker Marjorlen Nekesa is settling well at the Oklahoma University in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Soccer League, in the US.
The 19-year-old joined the university a couple months ago after she scored a brace in the U-20 Women World Cup preliminary round qualifiers against Botswana where Kenya won 7-1.
Nekesa has so far scored six goals from four matches for the university and she says the sky is the limit as she seeks to achieve more in her football career.
Speaking to The Standard Sports, Nekesa said her team mates had contributed to her good start.
“I started well by scoring a hat-trick in my first game where we won 7-0 against Southern Western Christian University (SWCU) in our season opener,” she said.
“It’s tough but I am enjoying every moment because the support I have from the team is massive. I want to help my team to win all matches this season by scoring many goals,” she added.
The soft-spoken forward earned a scholarship after impressing the institution’s coach who came to Kenya for scouting.
The former Butere Girls High School is taking Sports Management at Oklahoma University.
Nekesa will, however, miss Kenya’s remaining campaign in the qualifiers.
