The National Gun Owners Association (NGAO-K) yesterday held their monthly IDPA club match shoot at Kirigiti shooting range.

The event which was NGAO-K’s main opening shoot this year attracted over 60 participants drawn from the disciplined forces and licensed civilian firearm owners.

Safety was a key factor as contestants battled it out on the 9 Courses of Fire (COF) in the competition that also involved the pistol experience, revolver, shotgun and carbine experiences.

Having expanded and hosted other shooting formats other than IDPA, NGAO-Kenya Secretary General Amos Mathenge is looking forward to a successful year in the local sport.

“We have spread our wings into other formats of shooting sports. In January, we hosted our first event - the International Practical Shooting confederation (IPSC) shoot, which is largely a fun format shoot; today we are hosting the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) shoot which is a real life format scenario-based contest,” said Mathenge.

According to the NGAO-K assistant Secretary-General Tony Karanja, they are planning to organise several high-level matches this year.

“This year we expect to have a series of high-level tournaments including Tier 2 and Tier 3 matches,” said Karanja.
