Boxer Badou Jack suffered a horror cut during his defeat to Marcus Browne on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Jack, who was cut in the middle of his head between his eyes was defeated by unanimous decision in their 12-round, 175-pound bout on the Manny Pacquiao-Adrien Broner undercard at MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Marcus Browne was beating Jack convincingly in the seventh round, before an accidental head-butt caused a huge cut on Jack’s forehead.
Blood immediately spewed across Jack’s face, onto the canvas, and bloodied referee Tony Weeks in the ring.
Weeks called for a break and ordered a ringside physician to look at Jack’s cut whose face was a bloody mess before allowing the action to continue as fans cheered.
The blood dripped across Jack’s face the entire second half of the contest, making it difficult for him to see.
He still managed to get through the entire fight, though he lost to Browne with scores of 117-110, 116-111, 119-108.
After his defeat, Jack posted pictures from before and after his face was sewn back together and thanked fans for their support.
'I would like to thank all of the fans for your support! The cut was a nasty one, but I’m fine now, alhamdulillah. Congrats to @Marcus_Brone who fought a great fight,' he wrote.
'Regardless of the cut he was the better man tonight. I am a warrior and will never quit, but didn’t realise the severity of the gash.
'I dedicated this fight to the refugee children across the world who fight a much tougher fight than I did tonight. I will continue to fight for them until the end.'
Browne has won five consecutive fights.
Elsewhere, WBA welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao showed flashes of his past brilliance as he delivered a dominant performance to earn a unanimous decision victory over Adrien Broner in Las Vegas on Saturday.
The 40-year-old Filipino senator put on a dominant performance against the 29-year old American boxer to retain his WBA welterweight world title.
Two judges handed down scores of 116-112 in favour of Pacquiao, while the third had the score at 117-111.
Retired Mayweather attended the fight, fuelling speculation of a rematch against Pacquiao whom he defeated in their 2015 bout that was dubbed "The Fight of the Century" but never lived up to its billing.
