Mathare United midfielder Kimani voted Best KPL Player of the Year

As Mathare United’s Kevin Kimani celebrated being crowned KPL Player of the Year on Wednesday, relegated Congo United, too, were in partying.

Their influential midfielder Rama Salim bagged the prestigious New Player of the Year award.

Salim was instrumental in the Congo midfield scoring some crucial goals as the Mombasa-based club debuted in the local elite league.

The Congo midfielder, who is linked to many clubs in the KPL, was delighted by the award and said it takes away the disappointment of being relegated.

"I’m really grateful for this award and what it means to our team," he said, after receiving a glittering trophy and a Sh100,000 cheque.

Sports Minister Paul Otuoma challenged all KPL clubs to form youth sides to guarantee continuity in the league. He also rooted for the development of community clubs insisting that it is such clubs that brings out the passion in football.

Gary Rathborne the Head of Super Sport Africa said they are willing to work with the new association to promote football.
