Wetangula tells leaders to end blame game over economic woes

"Leaders could be fighting, but we must all remember that it is the citizens who could be suffering. The story about future politics will be discussed at a later stage," he said.

"We must support the Government in making the right decisions and policies," he added.

He told leaders to stop chest thumping and instead device ways to ensure resources trickle down to the counties.

"Counties get only 20 per cent of the resources, and the rest remains with the national government, and it is only fair that we tone down on political chest-thumping if we are to get the resources down to the counties," he said.

The Speaker noted that President William Ruto has been signing government policies aimed at reforming various sectors of the economy.

"We can fight as politicians, but we should not allow disunity among our leaders and other Kenyans. The county government must not work in isolation," he said.

The Speaker called on Gusii leaders to unite and shun political conflicts that could derail development projects in the region.

"We only have one president and 47 governors, there is no need to be quarreling all the time. Leaders are supposed to give solutions and not fight. We must find a way to work as a team," he said.

Wetang'ula told Kisii Governor Simba Arati and Senator Richard Onyonka to find common ground and offer solutions to unite the community.

The Speaker said Nyamira, Kisii, Migori, and Homabay counties have resources that require their leadership to unite and device strategies to exploit them to spur development of the region.
