Sh46 million project to tackle water shortage in Siaya

Governor James Orengo's administration has stepped up efforts to address the problem of water shortage in Sakwa area by investing in a Sh46 million water project.

The Olago Water Project, which is being executed by DNT Engineers, is designed to produce 2,500 cubic litres of water.

Speaking during the launch of the rehabilitation exercise, Orengo said the project is set to serve about 8, 400 households and learning institutions, once fully rehabilitated and operationalized.

“This project will be fully operational within six months and we look forward to a reliable supply of clean water,” said Orengo, adding that water was an essential asset for use at home for domestic purposes and also for economic sustainability.

He added that plans of extension to Got Abiero, Alara and Akoko are underway.

He further added that a new pump will be installed at the site to complete consistent power supply to enable sustainable water generation for residents.

Orengo added that they have put plans in place to utilize solar power in all the water projects to cut down on the huge electric bill and to upscale water production.

“Overreliance on electricity has caused the collapse of many water projects in the county,” said Orengo.

He assured the residents that provision of safe, clean, and accessible water for drinking and agricultural use is a key pillar of his campaign agenda.
