The Azimio la Umoja coalition has said that President William Ruto's one year of governance has been disastrous.
The coalition leader Raila Odinga, said that President Ruto's administration has made the lives of Kenyans harder.
While addressing the press on Friday, September 15, Odinga said that unlike in the previous regimes, the Kenya Kwanza governance is unamiable.
"As we are beginning the second year of Kenya Kwanza regime, it is clear we are in a reckless race to the bottom. All indicators point to the fact that life is deteriorating not improving meaning we are looking at a more severe second year under Kenya Kwanza," said Odinga.
According to Odinga, in the last year, the prices of basic commodities like sugar, increased by 61 per cent per kilogram, maize flour by 9.6 per cent, electricity by 48 per cent and single room rent by 2.8 per cent.
This according to Odinga is the highest Kenyans have had to pay since independence.
Further, the opposition claim that with the recent increase in fuel prices, as announced by Energy Petroleum Regulatory Athority, the retail prices of goods might rise to 70 per cent in the coming future.
Azimio now wants the government in its second year, to make reviews and change the trajectory of the economy in the country for the better.
"It has been a disastrous one year under Kenya Kwanza, there are strong indications that things will get worse or remain the same. We refuse to ask you to tighten your belts, you have done enough. The ball is in the court of the regime, they either act or face the fate of other incompetent regimes in the continent," said Odinga.
