Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai has been discharged from the hospital after he was taken ill on August, 25.
Sources revealed to The Standard that Mutyambai was discharged from the Aga Khan Hospital on September 1 at around 2:30pm and will now be monitored from his Karen home.
He was moved from the High Dependence Unit to the general ward after the pressure on his brain stabilised on Monday, August 28.
Shortly after his admission, Mutyambai appointed his deputy Noor Gabow as the acting Inspector General.
"This is to inform the general public that I will be away from office attending to a medical check-up effective today. In my absence, Noor Gabow, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Administration, will act as the IG of the National Police Service until my return," said Mutyambai.
The last time the police chief was spotted in public was on July 31, 2022, during the commissioning of the 27-kilometre Nairobi Expressway.
It is not clear what considerations were made in appointing Gabow to the acting position.
There are two Deputy Inspector Generals (DIG) of Police who deputise Mutyambai. Edward Mbugua is the DIG in charge of Kenya police.
Gabow, is a career police officer who has risen through the ranks to be the first DIG from the regular police to lead the AP service.
