Felix Orinda aka DJ Evolve on Thursday told the court that Embakasi East MP Babu Owino did not possess a gun on the day he was shot.
Evolve, who appeared as a defence witness, informed Senior Principal Magistrate Benard Ochoi that he never witnessed the MP carrying a firearm inside the club.
He emphasised their longstanding friendship of over five years, stating that Owino frequently sought his counsel.
The DJ testified that he did not see the person who shot him, only realizing he was in a vehicle being transported to the hospital.
He acknowledged that the MP has been providing financial support for his medical expenses and other needs, being the sole individual to offer him moral support during this ordeal.
Providing his testimony via a virtual video from his bed, Evolve mentioned that Babu had visited the club on multiple occasions prior to January 16, 2020, as he was a regular customer.
The second defence witness, Edwin Otieno, who serves as the MP's private protector and personal assistant, informed the court that the gun carried by his boss was non-functional.
He clarified that it had jammed two days earlier when Owino was at a shooting range in Karen. Otieno revealed that he had handed over the gun to the club's security personnel, while also completing the necessary paperwork detailing the firearm and the amount of ammunition it contained.
Due to the jamming issue, he advised Owino to have the gun examined.
The MP has already provided his testimony and indicated that he would present five additional defence witnesses during the trial.
