President William Ruto has arrived at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi County to preside over this year's Jamhuri Day celebrations.
Ruto inspected a presidential guard of honor shortly before 10 a.m., drawing cheers and chants from the eager crowd.
He was accompanied by First Lady Rachel Ruto.
The event's guest of honor is Gambia's President Adama Barrow, who is among the high-profile dignitaries attending the celebration. Other notable attendees include Huldah Momanyi, a Minnesota House Representative, and diplomatic representatives from various countries.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and Chief Justice Martha Koome were also present, along with other senior government officials.
Kenya is celebrating 61 years of independence.
This marks the first Jamhuri Day celebration that Deputy President Kindiki has attended since his appointment.
