Former Lancet CEO Dr Ahmed Kalebi is now banking on a new state-of-the-art laboratory to revolutionise the healthcare industry.

This is after the cutting-edge, fully automated laboratory was opened at Real Towers Annexe along Hospital Road in Upper Hill, Nairobi.

Speaking after the launch, the renowned pathologist said the Dr Kalebi Labs (DKL) has been at the forefront of medical diagnostics and laboratory services in Kenya and East Africa.

With a commitment to innovation, quality, and patient-centred care, he said the lab continues to set new benchmarks in the region’s healthcare industry.

“The facility marks a significant advancement in healthcare and diagnostics in Africa. It is the first laboratory of its kind on the continent, utilising the latest Total Lab Automation (TLA) technology to provide rapid, accurate, and reliable diagnostic results,” said Kalebi.

According to him, the lab’s mission is to raise the standard of healthcare across the country and beyond.

“By investing in fully automated systems, we are ensuring that diagnostics are not only more efficient but also more accessible to everyone in the region,” he said.

The lab has cutting-edge diagnostic machines that can handle a wide range of tests, from routine blood work to complex genetic testing.

“By leveraging artificial intelligence and robotics, Dr Kalebi Labs ensures minimal human error, providing patients with trustworthy results and facilitating faster clinical decisions for doctors and healthcare professionals,” he said.

Key features of the lab include fully automated diagnostic systems that offer rapid results with high accuracy and expanded testing capabilities that cover a wide range of medical and diagnostic services.

The facility also entails equipment with increased efficiency which will significantly reduce the waiting time for results.

Dr Kalebi said the laboratory will operate around the clock, ensuring that patients receive timely results, regardless of their location or time of need.

“We are committed to offering affordable and accessible healthcare solutions, and this new facility underscores its dedication to making world-class diagnostics a reality for all Kenyans,” he added.

The doctor is among the world’s 75 most influential people in the field of laboratory medicine.

Born and raised in Nairobi’s Kibra slum, Dr Kalebi remains the only African listed in The Power List 2021 ‘Showstoppers’ category by The Pathologist magazine, which publishes an annual list of influential personalities, including opinion shapers in collaboration with the American Society of Clinical Pathology.
