Covid-19: Kenya records 55 new cases, 137 recoveries in last 24 hours

Kenya has recorded 55 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 3,216 raising the country's caseload to 322,151.

In a statement on Monday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 1.7 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 3,261,313.

Out of the new patients, 21 are female, whereas 34 are male, with the youngest carrier being a six-month-old baby and the oldest aged 92.

Of the new cases, 18 are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi County recorded 47 cases, Nyeri 3, Mombasa 2, Kiambu, Kisii and Laikipia a case each.

Kenya’s Covid-19 death toll still remain at 5,621 after no deaths were reported from the virus in the last 24 hours.

Total recoveries now stand at 296,108 after 137 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours 121 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme and 16 from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 243,493 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 52,615 are from various hospitals countrywide.

Admitted

A total of 240 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 3,619 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Eight (8) patients are in the ICU seven of them are on ventilatory support and one on supplemental oxygen. No patient is under observation.

Another 58 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen 56 of them in the general wards, while two patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccinated

In terms of vaccination, Kenya has so far administered 13,782,963 Covid-19 vaccines across the country according to the Ministry of Health latest records.

Of these, 6,965,069 have been partially vaccinated while 6,338,847 have been fully vaccinated.

Another 285,456 are doses administered to those between 15 to 17 years while 193,591 are booster doses.

CS Kagwe said the ministry is conducting a mass vaccination in the 47 counties from January 28 to get many people vaccinated.
