Covid-19: Over 3,000 recover as Kenya records 310 new infections

Kenya has recorded 310 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 3,961 raising the country's caseload to 317,634.

In a statement on Sunday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 7.8 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 3,147,823.

Out of the new patients, 161 are female, whereas 149 are male, with the youngest carrier being a four-month-old baby and the oldest aged 97.

Of the new cases,182 are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi County recorded 180 cases, Siaya and Uasin Gishu 16 cases each, Kiambu 14, Migori 12, Nakuru 8, Nandi 7, Nyamira 6, Kisii 5, Kwale, Kakamega, Embu and Vihiga 4 cases, Elgeyo Marakwet, Lamu, Trans Nzoia and Nyandarua 3 cases each, Garissa, Kajiado, Nyeri and Laikipia 2 cases each.

Machakos, Meru, Murang’a, Mombasa, Taita Taveta, Baringo, Kisumu, Kericho, Kilifi and Bungoma1 case each.

Kenya’s Covid-19 death toll has risen to 5,488 after no deaths were reported from the virus in the last 24 hours.

Total recoveries now stand at 284,727 after 3,384 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours 3,3329 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 55 from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 233,586 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 51,141 are from various hospitals countrywide.

Admitted

A total of 1,043 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 10,664 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Fifty-three (53) patients are in the ICU with 51 of them are on ventilatory support while two are on supplemental oxygen. No patient is under observation.

Another 241 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 237 of them in the general wards while four patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccinated

In terms of vaccination, Kenya has so far administered 11,082,457 Covid-19 vaccines across the country according to the Ministry of Health latest records.

Of these, 6,198,816 have been partially vaccinated while 4,763,682 have been fully vaccinated.

Another 30,245 doses have been administered to those between 15 and 18 years while 89,714 are booster doses.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 17.5 per cent as the government works towards vaccinating 27, 246,033.
