Covid-19: Kenya records 3,297 cases, 8 deaths in last 24 hours

Kenya has recorded 3,297 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 9,637 raising the country's caseload to 288,951.

In a statement on Wednesday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 34.2 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 3,009,185.

Out of the new patients, 1,756 are female, whereas 1,541 are male, with the youngest carrier being a one-month-old baby and the oldest aged 101.

Of the new cases, 232 are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi County recorded 982 cases, Makueni 233, Siaya 226, Kiambu 165, Nakuru 115, Kakamega and Migori 114 cases each, Machakos 110, Kisumu 99, Nyeri 97, Mombasa 92, Kericho 87, Nyamira 81, Kajiado 76, Nyandarua 69, Kilifi 63, West Pokoto 62, Trans Nzoia 59, Murang’a 47, Busia 43, Laikipia 39, Baringo 38, Kitui 33, Uasin Gishu 31, Garissa 28, Homa Bay 27, Kisii 25, Kwale and Meru 20 cases each, Kirinyaga 18, Taita Taveta 17, Bomet 11, Lamu 10, Embu and Narok 9 cases each, Bungoma 8, Samburu and Vihiga 6 cases each, Turkana 5, Mandera, Nandi, and Tharaka Nithi 1 case each.

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll stand has risen to 5,372 after eight deaths were reported from the virus in the last 24 hours.

Total recoveries now stand at 250, 963 after 236 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours 173 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 63 from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 202,075 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 48,888 are from various hospitals countrywide.

Admitted

A total of 835 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 21,692 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Thirty-nine (39) patients are in the ICU with 19 of them are on ventilatory support while 20 are on supplemental oxygen. No patients are on observation.

Another 198 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 173 of them in the general wards while 25 patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccinated

In terms of vaccination, Kenya has so far administered 9,723,787 Covid-19 vaccines across the country according to the Ministry of Health latest records.

Of these, 5,704,996 have been partially vaccinated while 4,018,791 have been fully vaccinated.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is 55.7 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 14.8 per cent as the government works towards vaccinating 27, 246,033.
