Covid-19 cases rise by 919 as deaths reach 1,203

Kenya has lost 23 patients to Covid-19 as the country records a total of 919 new positive cases in the last 24 hours. The numbers raise the total number of fatalities to 1,203 and the total number of positive cases to 66,723. Today is the third consecutive day that the country has recorded double-digit fatalities as Covid-19 numbers continue to stay on the rise more than a week after the Covid-19 protocols were tightened. The positive cases come from a sample size of 6,135 people tested bringing the total number of tests to 766,910. 887 of those who tested positive are Kenyans and 32 are foreigners. In terms of gender 559 are males and 360 females. The youngest is a seven-month-old infant, while the oldest is 87. 414 patients have recovered from the disease, 316 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 98 have been discharged from various hospitals. Total recoveries now stand at 44,040.  Health workers have continued being immediate victims of the virus. To date there are 2,207 healthcare workers who have tested positive for the virus while 23 have lost their lives to the virus. 1,106 of infected healthcare workers are males and 1,101 females.  A total of 1,279 patients are admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,102 are on Home Based Isolation and Care. 60 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 20 of whom are on ventilatory support and 35 on supplemental oxygen. Another 89 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen out of whom 71 are in the general wards and 18 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Distribution Nairobi accounts for more than a third of the total numbers with 345 cases. Mombasa has recorded 98 cases, Nakuru 76, Kilifi 74, Kiambu 44, Kericho 41, Trans Nzoia 32, Kisumu 31, Uasin Gishu 24, Kajiado 18, Nyeri 17, Kwale 14, Taita Taveta 13, Machakos 10, Siaya 9, Turkana 9, Embu 7, Lamu 7, Meru 7, West Pokot 6, Kisii 5,  Murang’a 5, Narok 5, Marsabit 5, Bomet 3, Homabay 3, Laikipia 2, Kirinyaga 2, Nandi 2, Garissa 1, Nyandarua 1, Migori 1, Vihiga 1 and Kakamega 1.
