The Beth Mugo Cancer Foundation will be carrying out a free cancer screening in Kakamega County on September 27.

The screening camp which will be held at Lumakanda Primary School in Lugari Constituency is second following the one held in Kisumu earlier this year. The free cancer screening will be hosted by the Office of First Lady, Kakamega County.

Former Health Minister Beth Mugo started the foundation that runs cancer awareness and screening campaigns all over Kenya.

The campaign aims at identifying cancer risk cases at an early stage, which is a crucial intervention in the effort to effectively combat this scourge that continues to ravage Kenyans

"The recent surge of cancer-related health challenges facing the country has brought to the fore the need to ramp-up early cancer screening campaigns to help identify in good time cases where early intervention can help," read the foundation's press release on Thursday.

The Beth Mugo Cancer Foundation is in collaboration with Co-operative Bank for the countrywide program with the bank setting aside Sh10 million to be used in the campaigns against cancer.

"The Co-operative Bank has made available Sh10 million to be used over five years on the Prevention of Cancer campaign, and looks forward to supporting the free cancer screening camps in all counties of Kenya."

The bank also supports the First Lady's Beyond Zero Initiative on child and maternal health.

“We appeal to other corporate institutions and Kenyans of goodwill to join hands and create a movement around the importance of early screening and testing for the key health challenges such as cancer and diabetes that continue to ravage our families causing untold misery mainly due to very late diagnosis,” Said Group Managing Director and CEO Co-operative Bank, Dr Gideon Muriuki.
