The county government is set to receive Sh35 billion worth of medical equipment from the US after it paid shipping costs.
Governor Anyang' Nyong'o said yesterday that his government had paid Sh6 million shipping costs for the consignment from the World Medical Relief as part of his push to better equip public health facilities in the lakeside county.
The shipment, which is expected to boost efforts towards universal health coverage, comprises drugs and equipment that will improve specialised healthcare.
The plan is expected to ease costs incurred in travelling outside Kisumu for treatment. Health Executive Rosemary Obara said the consignment includes X-ray machines, surgical and neurosurgical equipment, life support machines as well as diagnostic equipment.
