Where and what did you study in college?
I studied mass communication at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC), but currently ‘niko gumbaru Leicester University’ (laughs).
What was your favourite or worst unit while in campus?
I did not have a worst subject, Radio Production was my best.
Best or worst lecturer?
My lecturers were good. Laban Fraiser, Joyce Njango, Kareithi, Kebaya, and Komen, all played an important role in shaping me for the media industry.
How was campus life generally?
It was good, I cannot complain. I enjoyed my time while there.
How did you make money then?
I was fortunate to get into college radio that would pay some stipend plus, I also got into voice over gigs early.
How was dating on campus?
Well, campus dating is just that, campus dating. I did not do much of that, but well, it was okay while it lasted.
What do you think of campus relationships?
They are fine, students just don’t need to lose focus while at it.
Where did you hang out on weekends?
I was in school till Saturday. Sundays were spent in the house cleaning and taking care of myself. I was not into the night life. I was a laid back person.
Classmates you will never forget?
Our year was full of amazing people. Frank, Cyprian, Linda, Bosco, Hubert, Okush, Njugush, Muitiriri ni wengi bana.
Advice to a young person who would like to join the media or do voice overs for brands?
I will tell them wajitume bana (push themselves) never let anyone tell you huwezi (you can’t) make it. Life is all about what you believe in, not what others say.
Any other advice you would like to give?
Always be the best version of yourself. Make good connections and never be afraid to say No to that which is wrong.
What type of reporting to you enjoy doing?
As journalists, we are all rounded, however, environment matters are very close to my heart, because I have seen how things have changed over the past few years. It is our role as journalists to highlight and be ambassadors of mother earth. I enjoy health writing too, because we are always one sickness away from poverty. Politics is important, as well, because policies determine our lives. We must all get involved because ‘’wueh...’’
