Controversial pastor James Ng’ang’a has fired back at critics who condemned him for refusing to help Milka Moraa with her rent arrears.
In an online video, the preacher slammed the media for allegedly portraying him negatively while ignoring the many people he has helped.
"Those of you in the media, look for your agemates to play with. I see you saying I did not help that woman. Why haven't you highlighted cases of the people that I've helped?" Ng’ang’a questioned.
The outspoken preacher insisted that his church was not a government agency and that he had no obligation to assist everyone who sought financial aid.
"My church is not the government of Kenya, I am not chosen by men. Open your church and help the needy. But come here and tell me you have not paid rent? This is a place of worship. If you think I will pay rent for you, wrong number!" he declared.
The incident, which initially appeared as a public humiliation for Moraa, turned out to be a blessing in disguise. After she was turned away by Ng’ang’a at the Neno Evangelism Centre, Moraa’s plight captured national attention, leading to intervention from well-wishers and government officials.
Thanks to the efforts of Kenyan police officer Sammy Ondimu Ngare, well-wishers raised funds to help Moraa settle her rent arrears.
Fortunes took an even bigger turn when Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome stepped in to facilitate her registration under the Affordable Housing Program through Boma Yangu.
Speaking after her meeting with Wahome, Moraa expressed gratitude for the turn of events.
"I thank God for bringing me this far. Secondly, I appreciate Pastor Ng’ang’a for directing me to a good path. I have been helped, and I have benefited. I have acquired a house, and once it is ready, I will move in," she said.
In an official statement, CS Wahome confirmed that Moraa had already paid her deposit and was set to own a home under the Affordable Housing initiative.
"This morning at Ardhi House, I met Milka Moraa, who explained to me her journey to where she is now. We also discussed her registration under the Affordable Housing Program through Boma Yangu, where she has paid her deposit and will continue paying as she rents to own. In two months, Milka is now set to own a self-contained home at Mukuru Site, complete with essential amenities, including a kitchen, bathroom, and toilet," Wahome wrote on Facebook.
