A man has been charged with assaulting his wife.
According to police, Elijah Gathiru Njoroge strangled his wife Jane Gathoni at their home in Ruai on October 31 after she refused to give him warm clothes to wear to bed.
The court heard that Gathiru was not amused when his wife failed to give him his favourite jeans after he arrived home wet, having been rained on.
Police said Gathiru’s wife was already asleep when his husband returned home at 2am and demanded that he be given his favourite jeans to keep himself warm in bed.
The accused allegedly got angry when his wife told him that his pair of jeans was wet having been washed that day.
It was then that the accused allegedly jumped onto the bed and began strangling his wife before throwing her out in the cold.
Their court was further told that the couple’s children tried to intervene but they too were thrown out.
The stranded mother and children then sought refuge at the police station.
Gathiru denied the charges and was granted a Sh10,000 cash bail.
The matter will be heard on February 24, 2019.
