Kirinyaga County Assembly has adjourned indefinitely after members clashed.

Speaker Muteti Murimi, in a statement on Tuesday, November 19, invoked Standing Order No. 1, saying, "Following the physical altercations among members and the ongoing disputes within the majority coalition, I hereby direct the County Assembly to adjourn indefinitely to allow for mediation among the disputing parties."

The adjournment follows physical altercations between MCAs on Monday, November 18, over the Majority Leader position.

Some MCAs sought to remove Muriithi Kibinga, MCA for Ngariama Ward, from his role and replace him with Geoffrey Murimi, MCA for Kiine Ward.

Murimi currently serves as the chairperson of the County Budget Committee.

Kerugoya Ward MCA Eric Muchina, leading the push to remove Kibinga, accused him of failing to advance assembly business and obstructing development goals.

In response, Kibinga challenged his opponents to produce evidence of the signatures collected for his removal.

He insisted he remains the Majority Leader and alleged that external forces were behind efforts to oust him.

At the same time, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Hassan Omar announced that the party would suspend any leadership changes until November 28, allowing time to resolve the disputes.
