86 patients in ICU for Covid as 479 test positive

Some 479 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Kenya today from a sample size of 4,043 tested in the last 24 hours. This is a positivity rate of 11.8%, 142 more people than were reported yesterday.

According to a statement from the Health ministry, the country's caseload of positive cases now stands at 109,643 and the cumulative tests conducted so far now at 1,340,657.

Eighty-six patients are admitted in ICU, the highest number recorded this year. Twenty two are on ventilatory support while 52 are on supplementary oxygen, 12 under observation.

A total of 565 patients are admitted in various hospitals countrywide, while 1,601 are on home-based care.

The statement signed by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said from the new cases, 424 are Kenyans and 55 are foreigners.

A total of 257 men tested positive, with 222 women also reported having Covid-19.

The youngest is a one-year-old baby while the oldest is 93.

Nairobi continued to lead in the number of positive cases with 189, followed by Machakos 117, Mombasa 36, Nakuru 33, Kiambu 31, Turkana 13 and Uasin Gishu 9, among others.

Regarding recoveries, 65 patients were discharged from the home-based care while 48 were from various health facilities.

Total recoveries now stand at 87,736.

Unfortunately, seven patients succumbed to Covid-19, pushing the cumulative fatalities to 1,886.
