Covid-19: 18 dead as Kenya records 276 new cases

Kenya has recorded 276 more Covid-19 positive cases in the past 24 hours raising the country's total caseload to 49,997.

In a statement sent to media houses by the Ministry of Health on Saturday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe (pictured) said the new cases are from 2,126 samples which push the country’s cumulative tests to 662,046.

In terms of gender, 179 are male and 97 are female while the youngest case is two-year-old and the oldest is aged 90.

Of the new cases, 273 are Kenyans while 3 are foreigners.

On a positive note, 220 patients recovered with 150 on the home-based care programme while 70 were discharged from various hospitals bringing the total number of recoveries to 33,876.

On a sad note, Kagwe said 18 patients have succumbed to the disease bringing Kenya’s fatalities to 920.

There are 20 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 52 on supplementary oxygen and 20 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

A total of 1,191 are admitted in various health facilities while 1,406 are in the Home-based Isolation and Care.

Distribution

Mombasa leads with 71 cases. Machakos 58, Nairobi 50, Kilifi 21, Busia 21, Kwale 19, Kajiado 13, Garissa 6, Nakuru 5, Narok 4, Mkaueni 3, Kiambu 3, Taita Taveta and Tharaka Nithi 1 case each.

In Mombasa, the 71 cases come from Kisauni 33, Mvita 20, Nyali 9, Likoni, 5, Changamwe and Jomvu 2 cases each.

In Nairobi, the 50 cases come from Starehe 9, Ruaraka 8, Westlands 6, Emabakasi South and Lang’ata 5 cases each, Embakasi Central 4, Dagoretti North and Kibra 3 cases each Dagoretti South and Kasarani 2 cases each, Makadara, Mathare and Roysambu 1 case each.
