A man has been charged for stealing a pregnant pig from another farmer in Nairobi’s Donholm Estate.

Robert Karanja Theuri is accused of stealing the animal from Henry Macharia Njoroge   on the night of March 10 and injuring it before the owner found it in his cage.

According to court particulars, Theuri is said to have stolen the pig worth Sh 50,000 at Donholm village in Lungalunga, Makadara Sub-County.

Theuri also faces an alternative charge for handling stolen property.

“Otherwise than in the course of stealing, you dishonestly received or retained a pregnant sow knowing or having reasons to believe it to had been stolen or unlawfully obtained,” reads the charge in part.

That morning, Njoroge says he went to check on his pigs and realised one was missing. He says he suspected it might have strayed out but every neighbour he asked around from denied seeing it.

But when he went around the cages within the area he found it at a cage owned by the accused person. He called Theuri who also denied seeing the animal. The pig was injured on the vulva and could not move.

Njoroge reported the case at Lungalunga police station and Theuri was arrested.

He denied the charge and was released on a Sh20,000 cash bail.
