I strongly disagree with National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich that effecting the pay rise for teachers as directed by the court would bring the country to its knees.
This is far from the truth. Why does Mr Rotich want Kenyans to believe that paying teachers, civil servants and all other workers meaningful wages would be a waste of funds? Does it mean that when teachers and other workers get better remuneration the money goes to waste, but when our legislators and senior government officials earn even more than what they need, that is justice?
Teachers, like any other normal human being, have basic needs and requirements, and are also taxed heavily. In essence, better pay for teachers means more revenue for the KRA and more investments that would really spur our country’s economy.
Teachers are found virtually in every corner of this nation, hence financially empowering them would really boost the GDP of the whole country.
Kenyans should not be fed such blatant lies that more pay for teachers would definitely stall other development projects.
