A Kenyan teen is detained in a hospital in India due to an unresolved medical bill. Peter Njenga Karanja, 15, who is scheduled to receive further treatment in Maryland in the US for aplastic anaemia, has appealed for Sh2.8 million to pay for the accrued bill.
Aplastic anaemia is a condition where the bone marrow does not make enough blood cells. Peter was diagnosed in July 2014 and travelled to India a month later, but according to doctors, the initial round of treatment did not yield improvement in his health, prompting the family to seek further treatment.
“We are appealing to the public for support in raising money to clear the pending bill in order to give Peter a chance to travel to the US for a transplant,” his aunt Anne Njenga said.
